Freedom
Freedom, a standing bear, roaring with a sense of primal power and freedom. Inspired by my reflective walks in nature, particularly through the park, the bear captures how these experiences anchor me to the natural world, evoking a profound appreciation for life itself.
The bear’s lapis lazuli eyes gleam with a sacred intensity, symbolising the deeper connection between humanity and the wilderness. Its polished surface enhances its deity-like presence, embodying reverence and worship for the natural world—an emotion akin to awe that I feel during my outdoor explorations.
The way I sculpted the bear reflects my relationship with nature. Built piece by piece, with visible traces of each added bit of plasticine, it showcases a naive, almost childlike wonder in consuming and interpreting the environment. This approach lends the figure a playful, almost cartoonish quality, inviting viewers to connect with its energy in an approachable and lighthearted way.
The combination of whimsical form and profound meaning captures a layered narrative: a celebration of the beauty and vitality of life, the power of nature, and the profound awe it inspires.
